What is a Workspace?
Your Secure Office
in the Cloud.
A workspace is the digital equivalent of an office in a shared building, but in the cloud. Your organisation owns the building and decides who gets a key to a specific office. The same goes for a workspace; the workspace is part of a subscription owned by your organisation, and within those workspaces, invited researchers get their own secure space to store, prepare, and analyse data together.
Every workspace is tool and data agnostic, comes with both storage and compute, and operates under your organisation's governance.
What Is a Virtual Machine?
Your Research Computer,
Without the Desk.
A virtual machine, or VM, is the computer researchers work on inside their workspace, just without a physical desk. It behaves like any Windows or Linux machine, can be started, stopped, and resized whenever needed.
Organisations can create their own templates with approved pre-loaded software like Python, R and SPSS. Each workspace can hold up to 11 VMs, giving research teams the flexibility to scale their computing power to the size of their project.

Data Agnostic
As long as it is digital data, you can use it. No prescribed data formats or models. That is entirely up to you and your research.

We do due diligence with your CISO, DPO, IT, and Procurement. NIS-2 SC-30, ISO 27001 certified, regularly pentested, openly documented at support.mydre.org.
Role-Based Access
Not all workspace members require the same level of access. Permissions are determined by the specific role assigned to a user when they are invited to a workspace.
Adoption Takes Remarkably Little Effort
Once the due diligence is done and everything is signed off by your organisations' IT department, CISO and Procurement, adopting myDRE takes remarkably little effort from your organisation.
We only need 20 minutes of your local Azure Administrator's time to link two Microsoft subscriptions to our Entra ID, and from there, we take over. Within three days, your entire tenancy is set up. Your local Research Support team will be fully trained and ready to go.
From that point on, new workspaces deploy in under 10 minutes, and less than one Research Support FTE can comfortably manage hundreds of active workspaces, meaning your central IT team never has to sacrifice an hour of capacity and your researchers can get to work straightaway.
